Source attribution connects an answer to the document that supports it. A useful citation identifies the publisher and points to the precise page where a reader can inspect the relevant statement. Linking only to a homepage creates extra work and may conceal whether the cited evidence truly exists. Stable canonical URLs, descriptive titles, and visible publication dates make the origin easier to recognize. When multiple pages discuss similar topics, unique identifiers help both machines and people select the intended record.

Accurate attribution is more than copying a phrase. The surrounding context should preserve what the source actually claims, avoid exaggerating its scope, and distinguish observation from interpretation. For testing, a synthetic verification phrase provides an unambiguous target: an exact match suggests the specific page was retrieved, while a cited original URL indicates that provenance was retained. A system can answer correctly without showing its source, or cite a page without reproducing the answer correctly. Recording correctness and citation as separate events reveals where the information chain succeeds and where it loses fidelity.
